A **Business Service** is an entity within the [[Service Consumption (CSDM domain)|Service Consumption domain]] of the [[Common Service Data Model|Common Service Data Model]] (CSDM), a reference architecture developed by [[ServiceNow|ServiceNow]] that provides prescriptive guidance on service-related definitions and data modeling within the ServiceNow AI Platform. A Business Service represents a service type published to business users that typically underpins one or more [[Business Capability (CSDM)|business capabilities]], providing specific value and outcomes as the most abstract and highest value level in the [[Configuration management database|CMDB]]. Business Services are recorded in the cmdb_ci_service_business table with a Service Classification of "Business Service" and are operational [[Configuration item|configuration items]] used for [[Impact analysis (ServiceNow)|impact analysis]] and approvals in [[Incident management (ITSM)|Incident]], [[Problem management|Problem]], and [[Change management (ITSM)|Change]] processes. A Business Service represents how the customer sees the service being delivered, not what IT calls it, and is associated with a service owner with one or more [[Business Service Offering (CSDM)|Business Service Offerings]]. Business Services are single-level and do not support hierarchy, but can reference a [[Service Portfolio (CSDM)|Service Portfolio (CSDM)]] using the "Is part of" attribute for hierarchical classification. Business Services use the "Depends on::Used by" relationship with [[Application Service (CSDM)|Application Services]] and [[Technology Management Service (CSDM)|Technology Management Services]] to enable impact analysis from infrastructure through to business value. ServiceNow recommends implementing Business Services in the Run stage of [[CSDM Adoption Stages|CSDM adoption]], laying the foundation for [[Service Portfolio Management (CSDM)|Service Portfolio Management (CSDM)]] capabilities across the [[CSDM Service Life Cycle|CSDM Service Life Cycle]].
