**Life Cycle Stage** and **Life Cycle Stage Status** are standard attributes within the [[Foundation (CSDM domain)|Foundation domain]] of the [[Common Service Data Model|Common Service Data Model]] (CSDM), a reference architecture developed by [[ServiceNow|ServiceNow]] that provides prescriptive guidance on service-related definitions and data modeling within the ServiceNow AI Platform. These attributes provide an end-to-end process method for managing status on [[Configuration item|configuration items]], [[Asset|assets]], [[Contract (CSDM)|contracts]], [[Location (CSDM)|locations]], and other ServiceNow objects, replacing eight legacy state and status attributes that did not work together effectively. The combination of Life Cycle Stage and Life Cycle Stage Status uniquely specifies an object's position within its life cycle process.
CSDM defines five life cycle processes, each with appropriate stages and statuses: [[Product Life Cycle Process (CSDM)|Product Life Cycle Process]] for [[Product Model (CSDM)|Product Models]] (stages: Ideation, Design, Operational, End of Life); [[Tangible Life Cycle Process (CSDM)|Tangible Life Cycle Process]] for physical assets and CIs (stages: Ideation, Purchase, Inventory, Deploy, Operational, Defective, Missing, End of Operation, End of Life); [[Intangible Life Cycle Process (CSDM)|Intangible Life Cycle Process]] for logical assets and CIs (stages: Ideation, Purchase, Design, Inventory, Deploy, Operational, End of Operation, End of Life); [[Document Life Cycle Process (CSDM)|Document Life Cycle Process]] for contracts and documents (stages: Ideation, Operational, End of Life); and [[Location Life Cycle Process (CSDM)|Location Life Cycle Process]] for locations (stages: Design, Operational, End of Life). Life Cycle Stages and Stage Statuses are not editable and are provided by ServiceNow to ensure data integrity and consistency. With Product Instance 2.0 introduced in the Xanadu release, synchronization occurs between Life Cycle Stage and Status across CI, asset, and Install Base Item records, eliminating problematic legacy synchronization with older status attributes.
