A **Connection Service Instance** is an entity within the [[Service Delivery (CSDM domain)|Service Delivery domain]] of the [[Common Service Data Model|Common Service Data Model]] (CSDM), a reference architecture developed by [[ServiceNow|ServiceNow]] that provides prescriptive guidance on service-related definitions and data modeling within the ServiceNow AI Platform. A Connection Service Instance represents a logical or physical network connection such as a [[Virtual LAN|VLAN]], [[Local area network|LAN]], or [[Wireless LAN|WLAN]] that is discovered, configured, or provisioned, modeling connectivity as a [[Configuration item|configuration item]] rather than a [[CMDB relationship|CMDB relationship]] to enable dependency and impact analysis properties.
Connection Service Instances are recorded in the cmdb_ci_connection_service_instance table with a Service Classification of "Technical Service" and are a [[Service Instance (CSDM)|Service Instance]] type introduced in CSDM 5 as a sibling to [[Application Service (CSDM)|Application Service]]. A provisioned Connection Service Instance is typically based on connectivity between Network Functions, which in turn are based on one or more network infrastructure CIs. Connection Service Instances use the "Provided by::Provides" relationship with [[Network Service Instance (CSDM)|Network Service Instances]] and the "Connected by::Connects" relationship between each other. Together with Network Service Instances, Connection Service Instances form the core of the [[Service Delivery Network|Service Delivery Network]]. As with other new Service Instance types in CSDM 5, Connection Service Instances are provided as a data model only requiring manual creation and maintenance, with no dedicated user interface and no inclusion in Event Impact Analysis.
