A **Data Service Instance** is an entity within the [[Service Delivery (CSDM domain)|Service Delivery domain]] of the [[Common Service Data Model|Common Service Data Model]] (CSDM), a reference architecture developed by [[ServiceNow|ServiceNow]] that provides prescriptive guidance on service-related definitions and data modeling within the ServiceNow AI Platform. A Data Service Instance represents a specific deployed, provisioned, or configured instance of data services provided by one or more data service providers, including database servers and services, data storage services and devices, AI and [[Machine learning|ML]] services (including data pipelines, models, and training sets), and derivative data products.
Data Service Instances are recorded in the cmdb_ci_data_service_instance table with a Service Classification of "Technical Service" and are a [[Service Instance (CSDM)|Service Instance]] type introduced in CSDM 5 as a sibling to [[Application Service (CSDM)|Application Service]]. They serve as the operational representation of deployed generative AI services, with [[AI Dataset Digital Asset (CSDM)|AI Digital Assets]] from the [[Build & Integration (CSDM domain)|Build & Integration domain]]—including [[AI System Digital Asset (CSDM)|AI System]], [[AI Model Digital Asset (CSDM)|AI Model]], [[AI Dataset Digital Asset (CSDM)|AI Dataset]], and [[AI Prompt Digital Asset (CSDM)|AI Prompt]] assets—mapped to AI agents, AI Skills, AI Tools, and AI-based search upon deployment. As with other new Service Instance types in CSDM 5, Data Service Instances are provided as a data model only requiring manual creation and maintenance, with no dedicated user interface and no inclusion in Event Impact Analysis.
