A **Facility Service Instance** is an entity within the [[Service Delivery (CSDM domain)|Service Delivery domain]] of the [[Common Service Data Model|Common Service Data Model]] (CSDM), a reference architecture developed by [[ServiceNow|ServiceNow]] that provides prescriptive guidance on service-related definitions and data modeling within the ServiceNow AI Platform. A Facility Service Instance represents a logical instance of a service associated with the operations of a facility such as an office building, residential building, manufacturing plant, operations control center, or parking garage.
Facility Service Instances are recorded in the cmdb_ci_facility_service_instance table with a Service Classification of "Technical Service" and are a [[Service Instance (CSDM)|Service Instance]] type introduced in CSDM 5 as a sibling to [[Application Service (CSDM)|Application Service]]. These instances may include heating and cooling services, lighting, power distribution, hot and cold water distribution, building access services, security monitoring, elevator services, and other facility-related operations. This Service Instance type supports the expanded scope of CSDM 5 beyond traditional technology services to include utility and building management services as part of the Digital Value Network vision, connecting to [[Location (CSDM)|locations]] and facility infrastructure [[Configuration item|configuration items]]. As with other new Service Instance types in CSDM 5, Facility Service Instances are provided as a data model only requiring manual creation and maintenance, with no dedicated user interface and no inclusion in Event Impact Analysis.
