A **Goal** is an entity within the [[Ideation & Strategy (CSDM domain)|Ideation & Strategy domain]] of the [[Common Service Data Model|Common Service Data Model]] (CSDM), a reference architecture developed by [[ServiceNow|ServiceNow]] that provides prescriptive guidance on service-related definitions and data modeling within the ServiceNow AI Platform. A Goal represents a broad outcome that an organization desires to achieve, often specific to [[Business Unit (CSDM)|business units]] or created in service of [[Strategic Priority (CSDM)|strategic priorities]]. Goals are recorded in the sn_gf_goal table and serve as qualitative statements that can be associated with [[Portfolio (CSDM)|portfolios]] to help make better investment decisions ensuring alignment to desired business outcomes within [[Strategic Portfolio Management (ServiceNow)|Strategic Portfolio Management]] (SPM). Goals cascade from the [[Strategic Plan (CSDM)|Strategic Plan]] and Strategic Priorities, providing direction for specific business units or departments. Each Goal can have one or more [[Target (CSDM)|targets]] associated with it, which are quantifiable measures that track progress toward achieving the goal. [[Planning Item (CSDM)|Planning items]] are aligned to Goals and Targets, creating a traceable connection from strategic intent through to executable work across the [[CSDM Service Life Cycle|CSDM Service Life Cycle]].
