**Operational Technology** (OT) is a category of systems and devices within the [[Service Delivery (CSDM domain)|Service Delivery domain]] of the [[Common Service Data Model|Common Service Data Model]] (CSDM), a reference architecture developed by [[ServiceNow|ServiceNow]] that provides prescriptive guidance on service-related definitions and data modeling within the ServiceNow AI Platform. Operational Technology refers to systems and devices used to automate, monitor, and control physical processes, often in industrial environments such as manufacturing, energy, or transportation, interacting directly with the physical world to manage machinery, processes, and infrastructure.
OT classes in the [[Configuration management database|CMDB]] are added through the CMDB Class Model App available in the ServiceNow Store, extending the platform's capabilities to manage industrial and operational equipment alongside traditional IT infrastructure. OT [[Configuration item|configuration items]] form part of the [[Service Delivery Network|Service Delivery Network]] as technology workflow components, supporting [[Operational Process Service Instance (CSDM)|Operational Process Service Instances]] that represent end-to-end operational processes such as manufacturing, industrial processing, utility operations, and warehouse operations. OT is managed through Operational Technology Asset Management (OTAM), which is part of the [[IT asset management|IT Asset Management]] product suite. The inclusion of Operational Technology supports the expanded scope of CSDM 5 beyond traditional technology services to include utility, manufacturing, retail, and transportation services as part of the Digital Value Network vision across the [[CSDM Service Life Cycle|CSDM Service Life Cycle]].
